[ Vanitas falls into silence. He shifts around a little, frowning. Trying to voice something. Anything. ]

It's called being concerned and wanting to protect something you hold dear. Although the punishing is new; you have been holding that in since we talked, haven't you?

[ He sighs, shoulders sagging a little bit. Mira has read a lot of those conversations. Vanitas can't deny that... Well that he must care. Some people have used logic and reason. Others their instinct. Though by now it's all settled into his mind and his heart.

Look, he isn't even having a panic attack over the discovery. ]

Punishing isn't new. I've always had those sort of impulses.

While I am actually a little flattered at the idea, I would strongly suggest not doing it. There is no worth in it for a couple of reasons.

[Mainly 'not my versions and not knowing if they actually did'. It's complicated as fuck but that's what it is.]

Oh I said all that, but I don't know if I'd actually follow through. I know too many of them to actually hurt them.

One of them would be correct. However, Thancred had no knowledge of the events until they were set in motion.

'Twas talk of helping the star, to stop a Calamity and to save my life the reasoning used that caused Urianger to be silent and assist. Despite his reasonings earlier about being ill at ease on it.

[ Look, he knows Thancred is associated with it all. ]

Ill at ease... No knowledge until it was set in motion... They still followed through or sat aside and allowed it to happen. Those are just excuses.

In the case with most of the Scions, they were stopped. They saw what the light was doing to me and tried to help.

In fact...I recall overhearing a conversation before. Might you heard of Y'shtola? She too is a Scion but I know not if her name has come up yet.

[ Van only makes a noncommittal sound. "Tried to help" is so vague. Vague enough that he wants to press he mater further. However he won't. There's really little point in it after all. ]

No one's mentioned her before.

She has a particular gift of being able to see aether. [Will she mention at the cost of her own life force? Not important now.] When I overheard her talk to Urianger, she was concerned because she saw the corrupted light within me so much that she didn't know it was me. Confused me as a sin eater at first until I had spoken.

[She should have come in and demanded answers then. But what would that accomplish.]

She told him that she believed I wasn't destroying the light but containing it...and asked him if the vision that he saw of the Calamity and my death was something he truly saw or not. Never got the answer because that's what happens when you have an army on your backside and hunting you down. But after destroying the Lightwarden in that area, Y'shtola told me in private her findings, that what she saw confirmed it.

She was the only one who spoke of it to me at the time, actually brought it to my attention.

So then this Y’shtola at least respected you enough to actually bring it to your attention. That doesn’t really excuse the ones that would have kept it hidden from you, Mira.

[ He huffs, clearly irritated. Partially at the situation - that he apparently cares enough to be upset. Then he is also unsettled by how irritated he is. This isn’t really any of Vanitas’ business but apparently the irrationality of CARING is settling in. ]

If I have to stop making excuses for Xehanort, then you should stop making excuses for people who did you wrong, well-intentioned or not. Yes, this person who can see aether might not apply, but can you say that for the others? For the Exarch?

[She would have countered with how Y'shtola and Ryne both noticed this and actually not only showed concern but tried to figure out what they could do...if Vanitas didn't bring up G'raha. Her eyes widen as she does not recall ever mentioning him. That means someone else did and not the man in question.]

How did you know about the Exarch?

[And does she need to hold him back?]

[ And Y’shtola along with Ryne would not be targeted with his “ire” as the old man had put it. Just... Everyone else. However, the comment has the intended effect anyway. Mira is coming up short. ]

How can I not know, Mira? I know everyone in some capacity or another.

[ Everyone from her world at least. ]

[Her tone is rather quiet as her head looks down at her hands. This seems to have hit a spot in her after all.]

Again, ask me how I couldn’t eventually find out. There are plenty of you around to talk about this.

[It's a small circle but Mira's concerned that he knows at all. She sighs in turn but doesn't lift up her head.]

...I gave him times to speak up. Asked him to confide in me if something was wrong. And he refused to. I thought we could speak freely to each other; after all, he has been so kind to me and helpful while on the First. How could I not trust him?

But did he ever trust me in return?

Things I’m going to ask him about when I see him next.

[ Because Vanitas does see this particular old man on a regular basis as well. He hadn’t known about the Exarch’s involvement in anything or that he was connected with the others, but now that he does... ]

Because I think the answer is no.

[ He clicks his tongue. Vanitas squirms around until he can actually LOOK at Mira. ]

Even if he is not the same exact one that you know of? He still did it to someone else who is likely just as affected by it as you are.
