[ Look even Vanitas is going to admit that the guy is better with those silly weapons than he currently is with a Keyblade. What he doesn't get is why he hadn't simply used the weapon he's best at for this situation?
Well Vanitas doesn't get too long to think on that. There is a vine coming straight for him. He backflips out of the way. Timing things just right, he slams his weapon into some vines and casts a blizzaga. With another swing it shatters easily. ]
[ Looks like they're going to get a break then. Probably a good thing. Vanitas has great stamina, but even he needs a moment to recover when using so much magic. ]
[ While bird boy hacks away at the vines, Vanitas makes sure to carefully burn the sap. No reason for any of that to get on them. While he has no idea what it would do, Vanitas isn't about to trust it either.
The comment made about absurdity makes him snort. ]
Not sure what you expected. It's been stupid since our arrival. There was no hope the moment we got here.
Would've been simpler if it didn't escalate like this.
[Although that isn't to say that Sandalphon thought to expect any better. He is, after all, a consummate pessimist. Still, it won't stop him from fighting the situation, and this overgrown plant makes a fine target for that]
What's to expect, when none of this makes sense?
[The path comes to a fork, and Sandalphon pauses. The vines are there in great quantity regardless of the path they take, because of course they are. Of course]
Every world has their own set of rules. Usually it's just a matter of figuring them out. [ A shrug. ] Or breaking them entirely.
[ Though it might seem like none of them can here. This is probably one of the more disturbing realization that any from "his" pocket of reality could have. Their Keyblades are limited and they are unable to leave. Even Vanitas can feel the strain on his body, limiting the number of his Unversed that are able to beckon to him. ]
Right now the question is: split up or stay together.
[ Because at this point Vanitas is fine with either. ]
[Sandalphon has some experience with breaking the world itself, or coming terribly close. However, he knew how the Skies functioned and the principles on which they operated. As much isn't true of this place they find themselves in.
Evaluating their options, Sandalphon looks one way, and then the other]
"Really," he replies with mock sarcasm. Vanitas snatches a Flood up from the floor - how long it had been there is anyone's guess - and just dangles it for a moment. "It's fairly obvious."
After all Floods are the base Unversed. They are created from emotions of irritation, a perpetual state for Vanitas. It's really no wonder that they tend to flood worlds in which he visits. They also look like rabbits. At least to Vanitas.
Anyway, he drops the thing and moves onto the next question, as the chimes go off to confirm Kairi's answer. He doesn't want to dwell on that any longer than he has to. All of this is pretty stupid, made worse only because he doesn't understand half off the questions that are being asked of them. Vanitas, in general, doesn't like not being able to understand things. Being confused or having a lack of knowledge is no different than being weak. There's no room for weakness.
What part of your body is the most sensitive: Neck, Ears, Chest.
Vanitas frowns. Yeah he doesn't like this question at all. "How do you just say 'everywhere?'"
Again... Not understanding the implication of the question at all.
Kairi's eyes widen and she has to make sure she doesn't jump. She does glance on the ground to see if there are any other Unversed... until she realizes that if Vanitas wanted to attack her, he'd probably just do it himself. Taking a deep breath, she shoots him an annoyed look.
"You do realize I've seen almost none of those guys, right? Nearly all of my experience is with the Heartless."
But, yeah. Now that she actually sees one of the Unversed, it makes perfect sense.
Oh, and this one... now this one is actually kind of interesting, if not something she really would want to think about in terms of Vanitas usually. She frowns in consideration.
"Okay, so... have you ever been touched by anyone in a way that wasn't them trying to kill you?"
Now Vanitas has had his fair share of dealing with Heartless, though that had usually been a part of 'training.' Once he had started to puke out Unversed, they became his opponents instead. It's almost ironic that the monster type that he has the most experience in dealing with is the one of his own making.
Back to the present, he mulls over Kairi's question. There's an internal debate over whether or not he should even answer the question. To Vanitas it's not like it's any of her business. Then again, it just goes to show how little anyone really knows about him. This is likely preferable to him in the end. Once these guys get their foot in the door, if Vanitas gives them something to go with, he might never be able to rid himself of them.
Okay, that... assuming Vanitas isn't just exaggerating or outright lying to make her uncomfortable, that's probably one of the most horrifying things she's ever heard.
"Just... constantly? You're always in pain?"
What the hell had that psychotic old monster of a man done? And if Vanitas is actually like that, what are the implications? Do the Heartless constantly hurt as well, the same way as the Nobodies have an emptiness they can' fill?
Kairi's mind reels as she considers what this one detail could mean. It's appalling, to say the least. On the other hand, it would kind of explain a lot.
( Angela would produce the counterargument that there are peaceful ways to resolve things without hurting others— which could have been a concern, if someone didn't get the hint with him, perhaps. She doesn't think he would, but it's reason enough to step in when others seem irritated to her. Stick her on the bomb squad, captain, she'll defuse any sitch!!
She can deal with his displeasure, honestly. She's just glad he's following her, and she's heading toward the only stall that doesn't sell anything sweet, swinging through for a basket of fancy other-universe takoyaki with the battered and fried octopus legs latticed in a drizzle of mayo. It's definitely way too much food, so she's offering him the paper boat immediately to share. )
I know; spirit in the air and such. It's making it difficult for others to remember their boundaries, but...
( There's a little shrug there. What can they do other than say no and split off? She's been kissed an embarrassing amount of times by complete strangers all because she put on that silly lip gloss. Please. Understand that she Gets It. )
[ Oh Vanitas would absolutely hurt others if push comes to shove in this situation. If not him, then certainly one of the many creatures that are born from him in moments where he can't contain his emotions any longer. Or when he forcefully expels them. Either way it likely wouldn't have been a very nice situation had Angela not elected to step in.
Vanitas doesn't really care about that either way. It suits him to have someone interfere - though not treat him like he's some lost child - or to deal with it himself. At least he can think that way once he's out of there and just looking for a place to sit down. ]
If they can't remember something simple like that then they deserve a rude reminder.
[ And Vanitas doesn't mind giving those out at all. ]
( There is a difference between lost children and familiar faces, after all, and to Angela she's just spending time with someone she's met before. It isn't any attempt at demeaning him or treating him otherwise, honest. She'd run into a couple people who had been paralyzed as a result of their actions during intake and she's glad to see it hadn't affected them negatively in the longrun.
It's easy enough to find some empty seats away from the crowds once she has her food from the stall, setting it on the table between them to pick up a piece and chew on it thoughtfully. )
Perhaps that's so, but a little patience goes a long way with others. They'll leave you alone more successfully if you aren't picking fights with them. "Let it roll off your back" is the saying, I believe.
( All right, maybe she is being a little maternal. She doesn't mean to!! She doesn't want to see people getting so riled up by others— high blood pressure, etc. )
[ Of course Vanitas opts to give Angela a dubious look. People willing to leave him alone if he doesn't pick fights? He isn't the one starting anything here. They approach him when clearly he doesn't look even remotely approachable. ]
Patience isn't one of my strong points.
[ Which is both true and not so much. Vanitas can be very patient. It's only on matters of the heart - specifically trying to obtain a whole one - that he runs out of it. Of course people getting too friendly with him just... ]

Xigbar
[ Muttering: ]
Third grade...?
[ Doesn't make much sense to him. Then again not much of Xigbar does. ]
Again. Who said it was me? From what I can tell it was just an Unversed that decided it on his own.
no subject
School, kid. Y'know, that place where parents send their kids to learn things.
[ Master Xehanort likely never sent Vanitas to school, of course, so that would explain it. ]
Uh huh. So that's why you were right there, watching the entire time.
[ A likely story, Vanitas. ]
no subject
[ No, he's never been to school. His knowledge is so fragmented. Have fun with that. ]
Just because I was there doesn't necessarily mean I was involved.
no subject
[ Have fun with that, you crotchety youngster. Xigbar just shrugs. ]
Whatever you say, kiddo. You oughta keep a better leash on 'em, anyway.

On your left.
sorry for laaattteee
shards of frozen vine fly everywhere, and Lea slams his weapon into it, slicing clean through it.
Their combined attacks seem to be having an effect, and the remaining vines begin to back off]
s'cool
Guess they can't handle the heat.

[Now that he's calming down a bit, he realizes how tired he is. He dispels his weapons in a burst of flame and crouches down]
... Phew.

If you think so then clearly it must be so.
