[ Yeah, yeah. Of course Sora wouldn't get offended. Vanitas thinks he might like it if the other kid would get offended. At least then maybe he'd be left alone. Unlikely, given the nature of his "brothers." ]

Well, I'm trying to understand you instead of just making assumptions, so I will try not to forget that you have a totally different thing.

[ See a of this is kind of soft for Vanitas' tastes. Or, rather, it makes him uncomfortable and confused. Makes him start to think about other options or choices that could be made. That leads down a dangerous path.

There was never a point in shoving it in your back. How would that have gotten Ventus to return to me?

[ Because again, Vanitas can't really see why Sora would think that he actually meant to go out of his way to lash out at anyone that hadn't been Aqua. ]

I don't really have one. [Sora points out, shrugging.]

Remember, I'm trying to understand you. I make an assumption, and you tell me I'm wrong, so I gotta figure out how I'm wrong and what I should think instead.

Basically, everything ever with the Organization members have been like that. None of you are like I originally thought.

[ Vanitas groans in irritation and rubs at his face. Of course now Sora would be trying to use his diminutive brain... ]

The one I needed was Ventus, not you. What I wanted to do was to rip Ventus right out of you to rejoin with me. Even then it was just because it was convenient timing. Notice how I didn't chase you down even though I could have.

[ See, it's not that he's actually without logic and reason. Vanitas could have tracked Sora down with some ease. ]

Even at the Graveyard you must have noticed. None of us were really surprised or shocked that you won. It's like it was expected.

So, no. Shoving a Keyblade in your back wouldn't have served me at any point.

So if what you wanted was to rejoin Ven... Why didn't you want to join us when we offered?

That's the thing I don't understand, Vanitas.

I am what I am. There's no changing that. Even if there was a chance, an opportunity, that has long since passed.

[ This is the only way he knows how to be. How to survive. Also don't mind him he's swiping some kind of sweet treat and chewing on it. ]

[If Vanitas is expecting Sora to care about randomly picking up food, he's not really the right person for that.

And anyway he seems distracted by their conversation.]

So you want to be with Ven but then also don't want to be with him?

[ Vanitas gives Sora a side glance while munching away. He's a chatty sort, sure. Usually not about things so close to his heart, but whatever. It's not like Sora can actually do anything about it.

Kid hasn't mocked him either so. ]

It sounds awkward when you put it like that. [ Like a lover's spat or something. ] He and I used to be we. It's like wanting something that's missing but knowing it's not going to work anymore. I want to exist but not as some half-hearted monster.

[Sora seems to consider that. Really consider it.]

Is the only way to give you a whole heart for you two to be one again? Doesn't Ven have a whole heart now? What happened that gave him that? Maybe we could do that again?

You filled in his missing areas. From there his heart was able to heal properly.

[ Though he's not answer about Sora trying to do that again. ]

That's right. When Ventus shattered us he returned to the only other home his heart knew. Your heart.

[ This time Vanitas shrugs. Shifts uncomfortably. These are things he honestly doesn't like talking about. Not in this setting. Not even sure why he's talking about this at all. ]

Why wouldn't I? I said I would try to help you feel complete again, didn't I? If that could do it, I'd be willing to try.

I just have no idea how. It's not like I did it on purpose the first time.

You say that but you're not really under any obligation to go through with it.

[ Just. Going to stare at Sora like he has a second head or something. He still doesn't really get why he's so important. ]

Maybe you should listen to those people for a change. All we have is a deal. You don't need to get so emotionally attached to it.
